The Woman I Was Born To Be
For the past 15 years or so, my email signature includes the tag line
The woman I was born to be.
Susan Boyle sang Who I Was Born To Be around the time I was going through an intensive ADHD coaching process to find who the real me was. I loved the lyrics of this song and I admired her courage to overcome her fears and face the world on Britain's Got Talent.
I strive to live up to my core values of being Ethical and Authentic.
I describe myself as:
- Passionate and compassionate.
- A good listener.
- Emotional - the tears come easily whether in anger, sadness or happiness
- An activist. I loathe injustice.
- A lifelong learner constantly expanding my toolbox of qualifications and skills
- Resilient
Welcome to my personal website.
In 2002 at the age of 47, I broke. It was the most humiliating time of my life. I behaved appallingly and caused my now (ex) husband and 2 sons who were 21 and 18 enormous embarrassment and hurt. Although I have mostly forgiven myself I still sometimes cringe at the memories.
Was it menopause or was it because I was burnt out from work and family responsibilities? Probably a combination. I only realised much later that I was very codependent and that childhood trauma at age 8 had stunted my emotional growth.
I knew that if I wanted to survive, I had to leave my 25 year marriage and find a new path.
On the 14th of April 2002, I bid my family farewell and boarded a plane for Greece for a 4 month adventure.
Keeping a daily journal of this adventure, unlocked a love for writing, and for the past 20 years I have written numerous blog posts on a variety of topics, created content for our business websites, and even have a couple of fiction novels which I started and hope one day to complete.
In 2007 I married Dave and together we have had many adventures. We have lived in 5 of the 9 provinces in South Africa and also spent 4 months living in a tent and trailer as we journeyed around South Africa, doing ADHD talks and workshops.
We now live in a Senior Citizens Home in Johannesburg but both of us continue to run our own businesses.
