I have been writing these articles on my Weight Loss journey, not to boast but to inspire and encourage me to live a healthier life.

Today is 14 December 2025. Between April 2024 and August 2025 I shed 25kgs. I am very comfortable at that weight but to be honest I don’t like the wrinkles and flabby skin particularly on my arms, legs and neck. Dave keeps telling me I am 70 and that it is normal and good that I am healthy.

But all women are at least a little vain, aren’t we?

My goal had been to stave off pre-diabetes and be able to move without huffing and puffing too much which I have achieved.

18 April 2025 Dave and my lives changed drastically. My goal to start a Coaching for Women Business had to be put on hold.

Dave turned 71 on 18 April and it was the start of the most bizarre few months I would never like either of us to re-live.

I realised all was not well when I asked him to transfer some money to my account so I could buy his meds. After staring at his phone for 5 minutes he admitted he had no idea how to do it - something he had done 100 times before.

His computer became a foreign object.

He started having a series of very bad falls and kept hitting his head. All he wanted to do was sleep which he did 20+ hours a day.

When he woke briefly he would be determined to get up to go to the loo, and got very angry if I tried to stop him. Each time was another fall, separate from the 6 more serious falls.

We are incredibly grateful to our neighbour, John who lives directly behind us and our ground staff who willing came to pick Dave up and put him back to bed. I was exhausted being a 24hr carer and another neighbour Elma, gave me a key to her cottage so I could nap for a couple of hours while she was at work. John took on the physical caring role - helping Dave to shower and dress and he accompanied us on our numerous visits to the hospital where Dave had every test imaginable.

For 14 days, Dave refused to eat anything and only drank iced water. There were several nights we wondered if he would still be with us in the morning.

Dave has no memory of the period between 18 April and 9 June when he started to get better. He did not recognise me nor our cottage and it took him several days to accept I had not kidnapped him.

We know he had at least one small stroke, and we surmise that the rest was due to an infection and consequences of his diabetes.

5 months later, his brain is back to normal and although he no longer needs the walker or wheelchair his body is still weak.

My weight problem has always been due to stress and depression which causes compulsive eating. I admit to struggling to find the energy to be disciplined. The kgs come back faster than they leave. Hopefully I get my mojo back soon.

In January 2026 I am starting my Coaching for Women business and hope that 2026 will be a great year for us all.
