At the numerous talks, workshops and conferences Dave and I have organised and presented, most questions centre around ADHD medication - in many minds ADHD = Ritalin.

I am a Coach. I provide you with the practical tools and support to help you become the person you were born to be.

I am not (and I am not required to be) a licensed medical professional nor a specialist on supplements or nutrition. These folk play a different role in your mental health journey.

Who can diagnose mental conditions like ADHD and Depression?

  • A clinical or educational psychologist (they may not prescribe medication unless they have the additional qualifications to permit them to do so).
  • A General Practitioner who has studied and has a deep interest in the condition (most GPs will refer you to a specialist)
  • A Paediatrician can diagnose and prescribe appropriate medication
  • A Psychiatrist can diagnose and prescribe appropriate medication
  • A Neurologist can diagnose and prescribe appropriate medication

All of the above need to be registered with HPCSA (Health Professional Council of South Africa.)

Consult a registered dietician, registered with the HPCSA if you need help with your diet.

Most supplements are available over the counter at your local pharmacy. Do your research and if necessary ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain anything you don't understand.

I take prescribed medication which includes ADHD medication and anti-depressants. At 70, I know what my body and brain need and how these medications help me live a better life. In the same way, I knew it was time to lose weight and stave off diabetes.

The reason I am sharing this is because for the past 20 years since my diagnosis of ADHD and depression, I have devoted my life along with my husband Dave to learning about ADHD and its co-occurring conditions. ADHD Coaching which is practical has changed my life along with other experiences and life lessons that I have sometimes unwillingly had to learn.

Years ago, Dave created a short video explaining what ADHD medication does and also a short audio clip called The Sound of an ADHD Brain which was recorded in a pre-school. It clearly shows how people with ADHD are distracted and miss a lot of what we should be paying attention to.

We grow up not learning basic life skills and when our lives have the added complication of childhood trauma where our emotional development has been stunted, we struggle to cope at work and socially.

This is where I focus. I can’t change you but I can give you the tools and support as you embark on your own journey regardless of your age.
